Oust Gloria Now?
Perhaps everybody knows by now that the call to oust the President has reached every corner of the country. Militants, activists, opposition groups, power grabbers and opportunist are already smiling since the governance is in the brink of falling apart if a sudden turn of event, such as if Rodolfo Neri turns his back from the administration and the AFP/PNP withdrew their support, took place. Is ousting the President really worth it? Different sectors claimed that another People Power revolt aimed at removing the President from her seat will cleanse the country of all corrupt government officials. But, looking back through our history proves otherwise. Three revolutions transpired already, two of them genuine while the other one was a mockery, and still unscrupulous officials remained in our system. It is clear that initiating a revolution will not rid our country of these rotten officials. Being idealistic, like the militants and activists, will not do good since our norm should be viewed on a realistic manner. An ideal system practically never exists, contrary to what left-leaning groups asserts, claiming that it will save the country. The political opposition wants to topple the administration, stressing that an overhaul in the political system is what the country needs. However, these politicians obviously wants to unseat the President so that they will be able to grab power for their own advantage. It should be these power-hungry politician that should be removed first from their position if the people want a better system. There are also those people from the business sector who wants to destabilize the administration and support drives to bring down the government, not because it will be good for the economy, but rather, for their own personal advantage. It is a common notion that they will be able to move freely with their businesses if those in the top positions are their “kompadres”. Meanwhile, church groups dipped in to the controversy to be a part of the limelight. They just simply want to imitate what transpired in EDSA 1 when the church played a major role. These religious leaders haven’t leaned yet that religion and politics doesn’t mix well. They are obviously not keen in respecting the law that differentiates them. Left-leaning organizations, political opposition and some church groups are itching to oust the President but an assurance of better governance is not clear. These people don’t have any plans except for themselves. For the militants/activists, it would be just another trophy for them if a revolution takes place. For the political oppositions, they are the one who will take over top positions if destabilizing the administration transpires. For the business group, it will be beneficial for their businesses if they have powerful “kumpares.” For the some religious group, they will be happy with people will be looking at them as a very powerful institution that can change the leadership whenever they want to. Obviously, the general populace will not have anything to look forward to except an unchanged system. So, is ousting PGMA worthy enough? It is much better if the people will wait for 2010 so that they will be able to choose their next President as what the law dictates, not as what these sectors want. Democracy should be protected and it will be quite autocratic if these power grabbers and opportunists will succeed in their drive to oust the President.
